NTPC Farakka Launches GEM-2025 to Empower 120 Girls from Bengal and Jharkhand

Farakka, May 27: NTPC Farakka inaugurated its flagship Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) initiative, the Girl Empowerment Mission (GEM-2025), on Tuesday at the RLI PTS premises. The program aims to empower 120 young girls — 90 from West Bengal and 30 from Jharkhand — through a comprehensive 28-day residential workshop running from May 26 to June 22.

The event was inaugurated in the presence of Shri Amit Kumar Shaw, Superintendent of Police, Jangipur, who attended as Chief Guest. Other dignitaries included Ms. Ekam J. Singh, Sub-Divisional Officer, Jangipur; Shri Ajay Singhal, Executive Director of NTPC Farakka; and Smt. Seema Singhal, President of Udita Ladies Club.

GEM-2025 is designed to nurture leadership qualities, instill confidence, and enhance life skills among girls. The training program offers academic support in English, Mathematics, Bengali, Hindi, Environmental Studies, and Science, alongside sessions on health and hygiene, self-defense, yoga, life skills, and arts and crafts.

The inauguration ceremony featured vibrant cultural performances, the screening of the GEM-2024 documentary, and heartfelt testimonials from past participants. The event concluded with the distribution of mementos to dignitaries and a group photograph capturing the spirit of the occasion.

In his keynote address, Shri Ajay Singhal emphasized NTPC’s commitment to girl child education and empowerment. Ms. Ekam J. Singh lauded the initiative for instilling confidence and fostering independence among young girls. Chief Guest Shri Amit Kumar Shaw praised GEM as a powerful and practical initiative that brings real change to the lives of young participants.

With GEM-2025, NTPC Farakka continues to contribute meaningfully to the national Beti Bachao, Beti Padhao mission, while opening new avenues of opportunity for girls in the region.
