THEY SAY POETRY IS FALSE

When they say poetry is false
With lots of spurious symbols
With multitudes of images and metaphors,
I reply It creates a utopian world
Where soothing solitude
Replaces all hustle and bustle
Where ground of heart
Is soaked with ecstatic showers
And smiles replace tears.

When they comment poetry is fanciful,
An illusion of woven words
Very far from the ground
Of reality,
I reveal them the true face
Of poetry.
It's like an ointment that heals
The wounds of painful reality.
It's a light that illuminates
Even the darkest chambers of loneliness.

MY LONELY HEART'S ELEGY

Searching you
In me
Has been
My lonely
Heart's elegy.
Soon, I find you
In soothing wind
In monsoon shower
Resting your head
On my chest
Pillowing my heart
In my soul's bower.

But just then
You leave me to lament
Playing your pranks
With the innocence
Of your simple man.
You go on playing
Hide and seek
With starry eyes
And ruby cheeks.

Stop at once
Your fatal fun.
To bear even a thought
to lose you for a while
Is not so easy
Searching you
In me
Has been
My lonely heart's elegy.

About the Poet
Dr. Zainul Husain, an English language teacher from Bareilly, a city of an indian state Uttar Pradesh,  holds master’s degrees in English Literature and Philosophy. A passionate poet, his works have earned numerous global accolades, including the Gujrat Sahitya Academy Award, Global Pen Award (Syria), and the Golden Feather Award (Syria). His poetry collection, Spring of Love, was published in 2023. Dr. Husain has contributed to various national and international anthologies, such as Just For You, Cosmic Poetry, Chauceberries Garden, Modern Writers and Hyperpoem, a Guinness World Record-making project. He has also received honorary doctorates for his significant contributions to literature and humanity.
